Why agents are great by Kate Ormand

It’s agent appreciation week and I’m listing 5 reasons why agents are great:

1. You have someone in your corner. When things get scary, you’re not alone. You’re in it together, part of a team, and that’s really nice.
2. You have someone to look over your work before it goes any further. Someone you can trust to be truthful. Someone who you can ask all the silly questions to and not feel silly at all.
3. You have someone who is passionate about what you do and believes in you, and that will have an effect on how you feel too.
4. You have someone to bounce ideas off and talk openly about new projects and old. Someone who will be honest about what works and what doesn’t.
5. You’ll most likely grow close to that someone, and they’ll become one of your favourite people! A partner, a guide, a valued opinion, a friend.

I’m so grateful to have someone I trust so much and get along with so well. Here’s to my superstar agent!

I totally agree. My agent is Anne Clark and I am so grateful for her. I’ve found also that through her contacts I have heard about opportunities for new work that I just wouldn’t have if I was doing it on my own. I am definitely one of those writers who need an agent for the encouragement too – it is so easy to lose heart and lovely to have someone in the business who believes in you!
